Really?

Mercedes? – VW is slated to go nose-to-nose up against Mercedes-Benz and their S-Class in 2002… that according to Chairman Ferdinand Piech. Now, in the concept stage and shown at the Frankfurt ’99 car show as the Concept D. At this same show, in September 2001, the production model will be unveiled. Then sales should begin in the U.S. in 2002. It is speculated that power will come from the 6.0 liter W12, rated at 450 HP. Rumor has it that more money was put out on refining the ride/handling than any other VW product. The guess is that it will undercut Mercedes S-class pricing, but VW is not talking.

Passat –this year gets a "nose job" for 2001. In what looks to be patterned after the Jetta, the Passat gets a new grill and xenon lamps. The taillights get the clear lens treatment, large time. Then, next year in 2002 model year, it gets the W8 (yes, I said "W")… so that would be a V-W8?
