NOVEMBER’S - ANSWERS

  1. This question was slightly mis-worded last month. It was supposed to ask when did the beetle get a rear window defroster. Answer: 1969
  2. The Super Beetle was made from 1971-1975.
  3. The Beetle front seats got locking mechanisms that prevented the seat back from pitching forward in 1966.
  4. The Beetle got inside push button locks in 1967.
  5. The Beetle got "fresh air" heating in 1963. That means the movement of air over the heat exchangers, then got assistance from the cooling fan.
  6. The Beetle fuse box went from 8 to 10 fuses in 1966, mainly because of the new 4-way flashers.

  1. Matchbox’s 1/58th scale VW Microbus is identified on the package as a 1967. But by its detail, it is definitely a 1962 to early ’63 model. Can you pick out the details that cannot be 1967 features? I’ll bring mine to the December meeting for you to look over.

  3. Why did the early Beetle have a split rear window and when did it get replaced by the 1-piece oval window?
