Dustin’s
1982 Scirocco
- By Roxanna J.
The "bug" fever hits all ages and types of people. Sometimes you really can't classify that fever you get as "bug" fever at all. We will just call this special kind of aches and pains that goes along with this disease "VW fever."
This "fever" hit Dustin in November of 1998 as he was actually looking for a Corrado or a Jetta, not just any old Volkswagen would do! After much searching he came across this special Scirocco. What's so special about this Scirocco, you ask? It was running! Unlike some of our other "finds." Everything seemed to be working, except the brakes and the tach. The radio, however, did not. But, then, you can't always get what you want (sorry, I just had to throw that in!) And after doing the "special math" that is involved with buying a VW, he got the right car at the right price! And just exactly what is the "special" math? It is taking the asking price of the car, deducting for all the broken parts that you know about. Then those you don't. And you have your bottom line, basic sale price!
The technical facts of Dustin's car are (just let me drag out my well worn copy of VW's for Dummies) - the '82 was the only year for the 1.7 liter engine. Dustin has made a few modifications such as a new 22mm master cylinder for maximum braking (instead of the old Fred Flintstone method of throwing your feet out!). Throw in, a sport suspension from Autotech. A new black leather interior will eventually complete this ensemble. Stereo wise, sounds like a killer, with a Kenwood Excelon X817 deck, Excelon changer, Excelon Dualmag 5 1/4" components with a single JL Audio 10 sub with a 300 rms amp. There are plans for a custom fiberglass sub enclosure in the spare tire well. Sounds like this one will really "bump," at least, I think that is what they do!
What do people say when they see Dustin's baby? SSSSWWWEEEEEETTTTT!
