Bugtoberfest 2001 OCT 6, 2001 Toad Suck Park – Conway, AR Presented by Central Arkansas Volks Folks of Little Rock, AR.
Nippy is the word for o’dark hundred in the a.m. on that Saturday, on the Memphis side of the river. Lots of hot coffee, full tanks of gas, and a small band of Club V-Dubbers were ready to motor west on the super slab. Of course, our trip included the typical, "I need more gas. Are we going to make it in time? Oops, that was the exit!" This was my first year for the Bugtoberfest. Previous years have always found me at my grandson’s birthday in South Carolina. This year we waited a week longer. So... rub wax while the sun shines. Yes, we made it in plenty of time. No mishaps… well … uh … Dee’s Ghia DID try to escape when he made that last turn in the park. But it didn’t get far, fortunately. We almost got to see if it would really float in the Arkansas River! Whew! So, rubba-dub-scrub, rubba-dub-scrub, we all polished quickly, our road dusty v-dubs. Now ready for judging, and cheese burgers too, checked out all the vendors, "Hey, got any blue? " said Mitch; as he strolled up the hill. "Gotta tweak up my baja, so I can beat that dude Bill." Wow, where did that come from? Mitch fired up his grill and cooked some Notwurst (not bratwurst) for the group. The crisp air and "bug scrubbing" had renewed my appetite. NO leftovers! Why is there always food in my stories? The time flew by. After some neat door prizes and a few tall stories it was time for the awards. I think we all did well and everybody had a good time. I know I did. We took a bunch of trophies back to Memphis; including "Best Club Participation." Hope I get to go again next year! Need information about Central Arkansas Volks Folks?
