  1. The dashboard mount flower vase, which dates back to the 1940s, was listed in VW accessory catalogues and sold at VW dealerships.

  2. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche died on January 30, 1951; he was 75.

  3. 1950 was the first model year of the Type II Transporter.

  4. In the late 1940s, the entire VW operation was offered to Henry Ford II, and he turned it down as an inferior product!

  5. Some of the best advertising of all time is, of course, the famous self-knocking VW ads. They were created by the firm, Doyle, Dane, Bernback. Mr. Bernback’s own personal favorite was the Snowplow ad! A preference shared by many!

  6. In 1948 Porsche and his son, Ferry, created the first 356 model. It was mostly based upon an upgraded VW power train. Although it had its own mid-engined chassis and cabriolet body. It grew out of a 1939 VW racecar that the start of WWII prevented from ever being raced. It was called the Type 64 Berlin-Rome car.
