The earliest VWs before 1943 only had 22.5 horsepower,
D.I.N., that’s about 27 HP S.A.E.

The Kubel-like little car, unique to Australia, was called
the Country Buggy. A few years ago I saw one over at Moon Bugs.

VWs are built in Pueblo, Mexico.

In 1945 VW salvaged enough parts and raw materials to
build a number of converted Beetles called Type 83 (see below). They were
just Beetles with the rear portion above the beltline replaced by a big
box with rear doors. Most of them were outfitted as ambulances and post
office trucks.

In 1963 VW ran an ad that had both a 1929 Model "A" Ford
and a 1965 Beetle.

Of the original 40 or so hand-assembled 1938 Beetles (they
rode on Kubel chassis) only 2 cars remain, although an additional number
of their engines still remain. Dr. Mac Jones has a running one! The 2 cars
are in VW’s museum in Germany.
