DEC 2001 - V'dubber of the Month |
Karl L.

- By Roxanna J.
Roses are red, violets are blue, Karl has a red rabbit. A red rabbit!? Everyone knows rabbits aren't red! Well, so much for the rhyme! Karl is our resident, nonresident VW of the month. He is attending school, or so he tells us, at the Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee. I wonder what his major is? FUN? I would just about be willing to bet that IS his major! Karl's vehicle is a 1982 VW Rabbit Convertible, to be exact. Once belonging to another one of our VW club members, Richard Dieter. Five speed transmission, along with a 1.8 liter engine makes the drive from Knoxville to Memphis much more fun. Aluminum wheels round out the package to give this car that special look. But, now, come on Karl! A new flux capacitor? Who do I look like, Marty McFly? Maybe Professor Brown? I checked in my handy VW for Dummies, and I saw no mention of a flux capacitor! That is strictly a "Back to the Future" kind of thing! Flux capacitor! Go figure! This VW, as with all VW's has a funny story to share. And since it belongs to Karl, I bet the stories that car could tell, well, they are probably unrepeatable! But, the one that really sticks out the most, certainly brought out some chuckles from some of our other members. Mac J. graciously allows us to have a camp out once a year on his property in Fayette County. At one of the camp outs, Tim, Rick and Matt stole the Rabbit and almost drove the thing into the lake! It was late, there had been a bon fire, I guess they thought the Rabbit was the Schwimmwagen, and they were gonna cruise it in the lake! Obviously, it was a hoot! And where exactly was Karl when this was going on? Is this the one about Karl and Herschel in the bus?
