It’s History

Super Beetle & Big Bucks – While perusing my favorite weekly auto magazine, I noticed that a 1979 Super Beetle Convertible was sold at auction recently, for a rather astounding $21,450. I love these things, but what makes THIS one so special? 4-speed, Blaupunkt AM/FM, fuel-injected, no AC, no tape or CD, silver w/black top and interior (vinyl). Hmmmm . Must be the low miles; 42 to be exact. Yes, I agree, if you are thinking it is almost a SIN! ... to leave that poor bug sitting at home in a dark garage for all these years. If it doesn’t die of leaky seals, it should surely suffer from a broken heart. VWs are people too! Go put some miles on yours.

For Sure!

Turbo S New Beetle – The "NuBee" as I so fondly call it, celebrates its 5th birthday in 2002. So with its "S" edition designation, it gets a lot of toys. Front and rear spoilers, 180-HP, 11 more lb-ft of torque, and a 6-speed manual, all push it to 60 in 7.4 seconds and a limited top speed of 130. Of course the list does not end there. How about stability control, 17-inch wheels, and 4-wheel antilock disc brakes. Special treatment on the inside will get you a 3-spoke wheel, stainless steel pedals, alloy dress-ups and heated leather seats for that "ahhhhh" between shifts. Happy Birthday NuBee!
