3rd Annual Spring Campout: April 2002

- By Bill C.

Mac’s Farm

April 20, 2002 – We had a nice turn out for this year’s campout at Mac’s farm. Other than a teensy sprinkle at 4 a.m., we had perfect weather with a pleasant breeze.

After caravaning to the country and setting up our tents, several of us cruised into the local Sonic for lunch. Bobby won the founder’s fan-belt flipping award... and right in front of the AutoZone!

Mitch brought a fleet of RC cars and boats. He was the hit of child and adult alike. Mac, his wife, son & daughter even joined in on the fun and "roughing it."

Besides the traditional relaxation & tale telling, we pitched a lot of horse shoes, flew gliders, shot off the Great Potato Canon (until the 11:00 p.m. curfew) and drown a lot of worms and crickets.

Camille caught just about every fish in the lake. Good thing she was "catching and releasing."

Rick even got a chance to try out his new-old baja, which he and his dad resurrected.

After a steak supper (thanks Mac!) the largest bon-fire of all time was lit off. Wow! I didn’t know I could get a tan after dark! Did anybody else’s tent melt? Ha! After Plastic Man met the Fire God, courtesy of the Great Potato Canon, the camp was finally quiet by midnight... except for those "growling bear sounds" from SOME of the tents. Mine was quiet every time I awoke. So they must be talking about somebody else’s tent. Right Bill.

Hope we can do it again next year and that all our members will join us.

"Ahhhhhhh. Now for some rest while these big boys are playing."

It's not a campout without a stop at the local Sonic.

Mac has old motorcycles too!

"Could somebody please point me to the mud bog?"

Now, THAT is a camp fire!

"3-2-1 FIRE!"
Plastic-Man gets fired out of the potato cannon, into the fire.
