Dead Bug vs. SUPER Bug!

Ever see a bug pulling a bug? No. I’m not talking about an ant carrying off a dead beetle. I’m mean a 73 ("Elm Green") Super Beetle (owned by Chris B) pulling Nathan's '69 (Baby Blue) Standard Beetle... all the way to back to Memphis from Arkansas. I guess nobody told him it couldn’t be done.

Nate and his dog were traveling to Oklahoma for the 4th of July when his car sputtered to a stop. To make things worse, his dog jumped out and was hit by a semi. After several attempts to get going, Nate flagged down a car and called Chris.

Now it gets complicated. Chris didn’t have a spare. But he had a flat tire about 60 miles before reaching Nate. So Chris calls another friend to take him and Fox to Nate’s car to get Nate, his spare and back seat bottom cushion. Oh. The seat? Well, Chris’ burned up in a battery fire about a month ago. So, they "fell back" to Memphis to regroup, get 4 hours sleep and form a plan.

Yup, get Nate’s tow bar, stick a BUMPER hitch on Chris’ Super and head back to Arkansas... only after persuading his starter solenoid with a heavy metal object. I love this. Ha

Bug in tow behind the SUPER bug, they head back to Memphis... 3rd gear at 45MPH on I-40 all the way. Well, that was not the end of it. Southbound on Riverside, near the old Rivermont, the super could not make it up that hill. Memphis Police + no emergency flashers on the 69 that now has a dead battery. Okay... leave the 69. Get a spare battery and start over again. Yes, they finally made it! Wow. I have it easy!
