October 5, 2002: Toad Suck Park
near Conway Arkansas – No problem with weather here. It was a BEAUTIFUL
day for a VW show. A few of us met and "convoyed" from Memphis. Dee Foster,
Ricky Briggs & I dug out our family communicator walkie-talkies and "ratchet
jawed" through all the interstate construction zones and stops for fuel and
junk
food. I think Bobby overslept after working some long hours and had to
travel in his baja without a front door. Oh man. This CB lingo is getting
weird.
Some
of our "bus people" (Rick Dieter, Tim Key and Robert Scott Hayes) were
already there when we arrived. They put their campers to use and spent
Friday night at the park.
I
had a real fun time. Bought some swap meet parts, threw away some cash on a
raffle for Jerry’s convertible, and ate more junk food. Tim Key was very
entertaining with his gas powered RC car (was that a Mercedes?). That thing
flies... and Tim is quite expert in controlling it.
Other
than a few hiccups with getting me in the right bug class, things went
pretty smooth. CAVF must have felt bad, because I ended up with Best Engine
award. Proud.
I
am glad we were able to help support CAVF’s show again this year. I hope
MORE of us can make it NEXT year.
Here are a few more pictures to share. I should have lots
of them on our web site before long.
