October 19, 2002: Belz Factory Outlet World, Memphis

It had to happen some time, our first experience with rain. The little guy, "el Nino", messed with us this year. Just a "small inconvenience." Actually, the rain put an extra glisten on some paint jobs. You have to stay positive.

Our members showed up on time to help set up. Yes, with a steady rain coming straight down, they were pretty much in disbelief that we were going ahead with it. We said "rain or shine" and we stuck to our promise. Those that had them, brought canopies, panchos, and plenty of umbrellas. We did not set an attendance record, but we had a VW show!

We were blessed with a nice, long break in the rain around 9 or 10 o’clock, so our judges could do their jobs; Bobby gave out all the door prizes and raffle prizes; and we almost made it to a dry awards ceremony. But Mama Nature cried on us one more time... for about 12 hours. Nothing that a hot shower and dry clothes couldn’t cure.

Special thanks to some of our sister VW clubs that braved the weather and supported us, especially CAVF, NEAVF and G.R.O.O.V.E. El Nino should not repeat in October for several years. Hopefully we will not have to use our rain date in the near future. The Shows WILL go on!
