    A: 1952

  2. Q: What advertising firm was V.O.A. using before they hired DDB to do those wonderful self-knocking ads?
    A: Before the famous VW self-knocking humor using ad campaign began in late 1959 for their 1960 model, VW was using a company called J.M. Mathis for their advertising. The new company was Doyle Dane Bernbach.

  3. Q: In what year did VW add a diagnostic plug to the Beetle engine?
    A: 1972

  4. Q: For which market was the VW Type 3 originally designed?
    A: The Type 3 was originally, especially designed as a more modern VW that could appeal to American tastes. Yet at first it was not marketed here. In fact their "Notchback" (2-door truck-back sedan) model never was. The car came on the market in 1961. But did not come to the U.S. until the 1966 model.

  5. Q: If you ran up on an old, split-window, single cab pickup that came with no rear bumper and had smooth-sided loading gates, what would you have found?
    A: You would be looking at an early production 1952 model, which is the first year for that model.

  6. Q: The early VW water-cooled cars such as the Scirocco and Rabbit were the result of VW’s purchase of what other German car makes?
    A: The whole water-cooled line came about as a result of VW’s purchase of Auto Union (Audi) and NSU in the late ‘60s.
