For Sure!

Meyers Manx Returns! – If you are a devoted reader of that auto magazine, “MT,” you already know about the resurrection of the Manx. This time, it is a true 2+2 kit, with an optional (hard) removable top; just a top, no side windows to cramp your style. 76 year old Bruce Meyers, creator of the original Meyers Manx, decided it was time for a come back... and what a come back! I think this thing is beautiful. It still holds the charm of the original Manx, while incorporating a few changes to bring it into the 2000s.

Meyers as a California beach boy, building surfboards to support his fun.  However, after becoming a veteran of World War II in the Pacific, he got his start by cashing in on the G.I. Bill to attend art school. Still the surfer, he got the urge to build a dune buggy when he noticed other surfers driving chopped up VW Beetles where heavier vehicles got stuck in the sand. Time to put those artist talents to work! Before he knew it the demand was so high for kits, that it became a business... and HISTORY. Only after losing copyright suits against “copy cat” kit car companies, was Meyers finally forced to close shop in 1970.

Well, he’s back, to rekindle the dune buggy excitement we all know; enter the Manxster 2+2! It has those familiar bug eyed head lights and chrome tubular bumpers. However, it now has a curved windshield, a front hood/trunk of the clamshell variety, an integrated roof/roll cage that will accept a hard shell top and seating for 4 adults.

The KIT includes the fiberglass, gel coated body (Lime Green, Dragon Red or Canadian Blue), 2-piece fiberglass dash, windshield, front and rear bumpers, exterior lights, steel roof supports and all fasteners. You supply the rest; seats, gauges, chassis (NOT Super Beetle, though, since they use struts), engine, tires. The price for the kit will set you back around $7500. If you want to learn more, check out their site at www.meyersmanx.com ... or call (760)749-6321. If you lose this, the link is also on our club Kits page, accessed off of the Hot Links.
