Golf Gets Furious – If you haven’t noticed (or even if you have), there is a growing market for econo-street fighters out there, that has a “Civic minded Focus.” VW owners, not to be left wanting, will soon have a hot looking choice, the next generation (V) Golf. Shown here in its Euro-garb, the new Golf will be offered in the U.S. as a 3 or 5 door hatch as a 2005 model, in 2004. Of course, Europe gets theirs “toward the end of this year.”
This
little hottie is going to be based on the same platform as the Audi A3,
making it long, wider and a little taller.
Predictions on engine choices are: a 150-hp 2.0 liter 4-banger, a turbocharged 2.0 liter in the GTI & a 250-hp 3.2 liter VR6. The R32 gets a turbo 300-hp VR6 & all-wheel drive. Transmissions (I want to say “transaxles”) will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, or the double-clutch (but not as in “double clutching”) sequential manual. Here it comes, that tired closing… “Golf anyone?”
