It’s that time of year, when your coffee break from your garage project allows you to lean back, take a deep breath of spring air, and enjoy the colors; the lime green of young leaves; the brilliant blue of the sky, highlighted by touches of white clouds; fresh blooms on the azaleas; and robins perched high to scope out an earth worm.

It is much more fun to wrench on the bug now, than a few months ago, in the cold evenings, crouched by a space heater, checking to see if you could still feel your toes.

Our rescued Lhasa Apso, Scruffy, loves sleeping in the spring fescue grass beside the garage while “daddy” puts Lightnin’s heart back together. I’m glad we were patient with the little fella. He’s been so abused it took a while for him to trust folks again. Can’t believe the difference.

I hope that, by the time you read this, I will be finished with most of my off-season makeover for Lightnin’.  I had my normal experiences that we all share. I’ve had to stop a few times for yard projects, helping a friend here and there; doing a tax return; even ‘Verty needed some attention. I did a carburetor rebuild. The thing looked like a science project inside. I replaced the starter too, with one that use to be in Lightnin’, thinking that the solenoid was going out. Silly me, it turned out to be a bad starter switch. Oh well, it was good practice.

All that aside, I’m really excited that we finally got the Events Committee rolling. We had our first meeting on the 10th. Ron Smith was drafted to head things up for us. We came up with lots of ideas for our membership to consider. It looks like we will have something different each month for you to participate in.

These events will probably be on the last or next to last Saturday of each month.

So please vote your choices at our and those in the future. We want to provide opportunities for you to enjoy some VW fun with your fellow club members; and also helping others and putting our club out there for others see.

Of course, we have our at Dr. Mac Jones’ farm in Somerville  on the 24th of this month. We are inviting the Little Rock/Conway club and also the Jonesboro club to join in. If you cannot bring yourself to camp out, you can at least join us in the caravan out there for the day (then hurry home to your warm bed).

We have lots of promise for fun over the next several months. Hope you will be a part.
