Maserati may be next – VW wants Maserati’s Quattroporte running platform and there is now speculation that VW may soon take Maserati “unto its own,” to have and to hold.  Will we get a club discount, you suppose? ‘60s vintage Maseratis were one of my first boyhood loves.

Toureg Gets W12 – VW has been building a few Touregs with the Phaeton’s 450-HP W12. Of course this is only for a select few customers; and at a very “special” price. Plans include about 100 for the Middle East and a little over 300 for the U.S. & Europe. These Touregs are special ordered and built to customer specifications. Considering a 0-62 mph in less than 6 seconds and a top end of 168 mph, maybe $118 Thousand isn’t all that bad. ■

Phaeton to Get the Big Diesel – How about that V10 diesel currently offered in the Toureg? The 310-hp, twin turbocharged V10 with its 553 ft-lbs of torque will very likely be offered in the  Phaeton here in the U.S. … well, possibly. If and when it does, the Phaeton will offer a total of 3 engine options: 335-hp gasoline V8, 420-hp W12, and the diesel V10. Stay tuned.
