Roy Rogers Foreign Car Parts, 3707 Hickory Hill Rd., Memphis, OCT 30, 2004 – More fun in the Fall sun(shine)! Our first Fix & Tune, Show & Shine was so popular, that we scheduled a second one for Halloween weekend at our other Roy Rogers store, managed by our friend, Ray. As most events go, we were outside and had some concerns about being rained out. But this time the weatherman was right. The rain ended early, early Saturday morning. I think the rest of us must have stalled for an extra hour or so, but started on time anyway. Ray was a great host; very willing to provide whatever comforts he was able. I managed to beat just about everybody to Roy Roger’s rear parking lot. Picked up a new skill. I managed to setup my 10 x 10 “popup” canopy all BY MYSELF… ! … had to go from corner, to corner, to corner … I think I wore out a pair of Keds that morning. It was a little breezy, though; “make note, bring anchors next time.” Still had time to drink some hot coffee, read the paper, and eat a honey-bun before the rest of the group arrived. I think the rain and other factors kept some of our folks from attending. However, we had a quality bunch of members show up and even one potential member in a home made VW street rod. Sorry, but I couldn’t get his full name. But I did invite him to join our club. He would fit in just fine. Hope I don’t miss anybody; in attendance were Ricky B with his 57 Oval, Jim J and his New Beetle, LaRue & Evelyn H in their Transporter, Bobby & Amy B in their 58 Ragtop, Joe R in his MG kit, Don and Denise N, their family and his custom 75 Bug Vert, Mark C and his Westy, Rob H to help “wrench” and me & Lightning. Bobby B brought his (58?) Ragtop, which he had just bought a few days prior. You cannot tell from the photographs, but everybody gave it a close checking over. He got a good deal and everybody agreed. It still has the semaphores installed. Just has to dig them out of the Bondo. Sweet! I bet you will see it at a lot more events in the future. It is good. I had a couple of senior moments. I managed to leave my extra camera memory at home. I also forgot to bring along the timing light. So, first, I ran out of digital camera “shots” before I could take everybody’s pictures. Not good. Then, we were unable to set the timing on Don’s convertible, allowing Rob to set his carburetor… because … duh … no timing light. Well, I have now added it to my never-ending list of “Things to Bring.” Sorry, Don. My fault.
It was a fun day for all of us. And Ray
says that he would love to have us back for whatever, whenever. Sounds good
to me!
