I am thankful for what sunshine we get between fog and drizzle. I hope your families have missed all the colds & flu that seem to be spreading. I was out with sinus infection and some sort of bronchial junk for a couple of days. While home I watched 5-days worth of the Barrett-Jackson Auctions I taped in January! Yes, this is my idea of FUN! There were only a couple of points of interest for VWs. A triple-black 1979 Beetle convertible, owned by Jodie Foster, with less than 50K miles and some nice looking mag’ wheels was sold for $16,500. It was in primo condition, but was probably one of the lowest sales of the show, beat out only by the other VW that went up on the block. It was a 1960-something (’66?) 21-window bus, white over green that appeared several times in “That 70s Shows.” It only brought $9,000. It was not nearly so perfect as the ‘vert, though. Of course, muscle cars & street rods were what brought the really big bucks. I think it has something to say about us baby boomers buying our dream cars. On a LIVE note, things are starting to crank up on the VW events side. It is all on page 5 of the printed newsletter. We have the open car show in Corinth (Alcorn Central.. ) at the high school on March 5. The club will be offering a caravan if you are interested. It should be fun. Join us! On the 26th of March, one of our show sponsors, Sound Waves, is hosting a show and shine for us at their store on Stage near Bartlett. That is going to be a mid-day event. Then we have our 6th Annual Spring Campout at Mac Jone’s farm near Somerville on April 16 & 17. Have you made your reservations for the Ozark VW Show Weekend in Mtn. View, AR? The evening of MAY 20 thru 22 is the date for this one. We have also been invited to take part in Southern Rides Car Show, the Big M Autofest on April 14 at Memphis Motorsports Park. I do not have a lot of details on this one yet. I haven’t even touched on the events coming up in June; Mid-America Motor Work’s Funfest in Effingham, IL and GROOVE’s show in Springfield, MO. I need a break! I’m already thinking about Eureka Springs and the Fall Shows! Can I get a sponsor? Hey, by the way. Our show is OCT 8. I better get some blank sponsor forms printed up! |
