There has been a lot of Go-Jo flowed over my knuckles since I last wrote. Of course, Verty has nice new pans, carpet and a shifter kit. I finally got the problem with the brake/clutch pedal return stop fixed. It would loosen up and I would find my brake pedal banging on my shins. Some heavy duty hardware solved that issue. And, now, Lightnin’ is back like I have not experienced for some months; with the help and urging of somebody (whose name I had to promise not to divulge). Lets just say he works at one of the top VW parts places in town and leave it there. But ol’ Lightnin’ has been “hooked up” with some great machining; his counterbalanced crankshaft freshly polished, spanking NEW rods, and his lightened flywheel all resurfaced real pretty … and everything balanced and matched up with new Mahle main and rod bearings. Oww, ow, oww-oooo! Wrrrrs like an electric. This “person” also helped me diagnose leaky carburetor to manifold gaskets beneath my Weber IDF 44s. Oh boy, Lightnin’s got back. This is the FIRST time I have ever been able to get him to idle as low 600 RPM without sputtering. Okay, enough of my gear head ramblings. What is going on in the fun world of VWs? Well, the Ozark VW show is coming up in Mt. View this month. I know we have some families going up to spend the weekend and show their VWs. Going to be great! Mid-America Motorworks has their BIG show in Effingham, IL the weekend of June 5th. GROOVE’s June Bug Jam follows the next weekend (JUN 11) in Springfield, MO. It should be fun, with a theme of “Surfing the Ozarks.” I have already pre-registered and hope some of the rest will join Connie and I. Bring your Hawaiian shirts! Ha. There’s lots of one liners there, but I won’t. And finally, we have some fun on the horizon with the release of “Herbie Fully Loaded” on June 25. Malco Theaters have asked us to do a show and shine at their Cordova Malco that afternoon. I am trying to negotiate some freebies for the participants. Then, if the drive-in movie schedule agrees, we will follow up that day with a trip to VIEW the movie at the Malco Summer Drive-In. May is our second month at our new meeting location; Fox Ridge Pizza in Cordova; at the corner of Dexter and Germantown Pkwy, behind the Burger King. We meet in the party room which is very nicely decorated, new and large. You should like it! Air Bill |
